I’m Glinda the Good. Seriously. I am.
I was Dorothy for many years but time and life experience has brought me to see the wisdom in hanging up my ruby slippers and Becoming Glinda. It’s a great job, really. I get to wrap my arms around girls and boys of all ages with my magic wisdom and assure them they are safe, allow them to catch their breath for a little while before they head back out, as they must, on their yellow brick roads of adventure. I remind them they have everything they need to live the life they have dreamed of and to fulfill their beautiful mission. I know and remember when I felt alone and petrified and not sure where to go next on my yellow brick road. I remember all the Scarecrows that showed up and loved me unconditionally. All the Tin Men who tried to love me with all their heart…as we both wondered why they couldn’t feel. All the Cowardly Lions who roared their noise but ached to be kind and seen through the eyes of compassion. I remember and see now all the Wizards who hide behind curtains of lies and legislative action and screens of blue light and type words to convince me and others they have everything and are in control.
But we’ve all been found out.
I, Glinda, am the crowned leader of this new world and I come armed with beauty, grace and power. I come with a tool box filled with weapons humorously designed to destroy frightened wizards. I have no time or patience for your cheap tricks. Be careful, or we’ll land a house on you.
I will answer your call for protection but ask with the heart of a child. Don’t come as a jacked up Wizard and try to convince me you are, “Oz, the Great and Terrible,” because we, the Glindas, Dorothys and our friends have seen those slights of hand, for many years, and are not impressed.
We. Are. Real. Magic. With wands and crowns and glitter and an innate knowledge of truth. Fearful of nothing when we remember who we are. We are the creators and we give birth to life itself. Without access to our power you have nothing. Glinda already knows this, it is the Dorothy in us that must live a while to figure things out.
“Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are on earth the more experience you are sure to get.” ~ L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz
